The William Chris winemakers first dipped their toes into the world of Texas grown Roussanne with a fortified dessert wine. But in 2016, Josh Fritsche, our head winemaker, felt the fruit we brought in was so good that he convinced the winemaking team to try our very first dry Roussanne. We loved the way it turned out and couldn’t wait to try it again with the 2017 harvest.
But hopes for a beautiful Roussanne in 2017 came tumbling down when a debilitating hail storm hit the Texas High Plains and brought the vines we had planned on using to the ground. The entire crop was lost. Not one to give up, Chris searched high and low looking for a different source of Roussanne.
Chris visited Cliff and Betty Bingham within days of the storm. Just minutes away from the vineyard which lost its crop, Bingham Family Vineyards managed to dodge the hail storm. The fruit from the Roussanne vines looked spectacular, and our 2017 Roussanne was saved. We are thrilled to bring you this lightly oaked, creamy golden beauty to drink now or to serve at your next special occasion.
A strong perfume of honey and almond with a buttery nose. Overripe pineapple and five spice on the palate with a lingering finish.
