The first vintage of Mary Ruth was bottled in 2011. Named after Bill and Carol’s mother, it has become the signature white wine for William Chris Vineyards. Over the years, the grape varietals have changed slightly, keeping this wine one of our most interesting blends.

Chris and his winery team found that 2017’s Malvasia Bianca had an exceptional bouquet. To showcase this quality, they decided to increase the percentage of Malvasia in this year’s vintage and added almost equal parts of Blanc du Bois and the Moscato Giallo (Muscat Blanc) to complete the blend. Subtle nuances in 2017’s vintage include a grassier, more fruit forward taste.

Longtime Mary Ruth fans may note, the Mary Ruth label lists the varietals used as Malvasia Bianca, Blanc du Bois, and Muscat Blanc. This is because, for labeling purposes, Muscat Giallo is not recognized by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) as a grape varietal.

Honeysuckle, orange blossom, lime, and lemongrass tickle the nose. Stone fruit, pear, Granny Smith apple, and a hint of white pepper tease the palate as they lead into a bright finish.
