The Hunter Vineyard is one of the oldest vineyards in Terry County and one of the first that William planted in 1986 for Jacque and Eunice Hunter. This eastern Brownfield soil is a deep Amarillo fine sandy loam, laid over a bed of clay with limestone underneath. This Hunter Merlot is the first single varietal wine from the vineyard. Chris and Josh felt it important to deconstruct the Hunter blend (Malbec/Merlot) to show off the Merlot’s characteristics and to help consumers further understand the Hunter itself. Typically, the team co-ferments the Malbec and Merlot or blend it soon after fermentation. This year, the decision was made to ferment them separately because of the elevated flavors and aromas experienced in each individually. The best barrels were then hand selected and the Hunter Merlot was born.
Medium bodied with richness that envelopes the taste buds. Beautifully balanced with tannins that dance across the entire palate.
