The Italian varieties in this blend are a bit different than what the William Chris crew was used to but because we’ve been working with this vineyard for a few years now, the team is at full understanding of the vineyard and are able to push it to its full potential. This 2015 vintage of the Mandola Field Blend is a more tannic representation than the 2014 vintage. The Sangiovese, Montepulciano, and Nero d’Avola were all co-fermented. 2015 was filled with even temperatures and finished with formidable heat, allowing us to let the fruit hang until its peak ripeness. Unlike simple table grapes, wine grapes need more time to come into full and balanced characterization, so being able to let the fruit hang longer is ideal in most cases (especially with these varietals).
Striking crimson color with aromatic noses of kirschwasser, luxardo cherry, and stewed pork. Fresh and juicy, there is a concentrated palate of rich berries that have been reduced to a concentrated paste. Bursts of citrus and jalapeño spice are at the palate’s edges. Fruit character plays with layers of chocolate tannins, finishing with a dusty grip. Vibrant and youthful.
